INDIA, Islamic Sultanates. Delhi. Jalal al-Din Firuz, AH 689-695 / AD 1290-1296. Tanka (Gold, 29 mm, 10.72 g, 6 h), Dehli (Delhi), AH 695 = 1295/6. Citing the long-deceased ʿAbbasid caliph al-Mustaʿsim [billah] (AH 640-656 / AD 1242-1258) within a central circle, ‘al-Imām / al-Mustaʿṣim / amīr al-muʾminīn’ (‘Imam al-Mustaʿsim, Commander of the Believers’ in Arabic); in the margin, ‘ḍuriba hādhihī al-sikka bi ḥaḍrat Dihlī fī sana khams wa tisʿīn wa sitta miʾa’ (‘This coin was struck in honourable Dehli in the year 695’ in Arabic). Rev. Within a circle, ‘al-sulṭān al-aʿẓam / Jalāl al-Dunyā wa al-Dīn / Abu’l-Muẓaffar Fīrūz Shāh / al-sulṭān’ (‘The supreme sultan, Jalal al-Dunya wa al-Din Abu’l-Muzaffar Firuz Shah, the sultan’ in Arabic).
